I’d like to thank everyone who has gotten involved in our very first project. So far we’ve had a very positive response. As I write this we’ve raised $357 of the $752 goal. However, with only 11 days left before this project is closed there is a bit of urgency… we still need to raise an additional $395.
I’m confident that we can reach our goal, but we will need everyone’s support.
Here’s how you can help:
1. Give $1 (that’s right just one buck)
2. Tell your friends and family about this project, and encourage them to give one too.

I just received this email informing me of the devastating fire at The Simple Way.

This morning, a 7-alarm fire consumed an abandoned warehouse in our Kensington neighborhood in Philadelphia. The Simple Way Community Center at 3200 Potter Street was destroyed as well as at least eight of our neighbors’ homes. Over 100 people were evacuated from their homes, and 400 families are currently without power. Despite this developing tragedy, we are incredibly thankful to share that all of our community members and every one of our neighbors is safely out of harm’s way.

The Simple Way is an amazing ministry. I know they would be extremely appreciative if you sent an extra buck or two their way.
You can give your donation and read more at their web site: http://www.thesimpleway.org/

For the next 30 days we will be raising money, $1 at a time, to buy a computer for a new community center located in the Black Hills neighborhood (a low-income, under-resourced community located in Grand Rapids, MI).
The new community center (currently being built by U.I.C.M.) will exist to provide the neighborhood with numerous resources including a youth center, and a computer lab. The new computer your dollar buys will be the first of several computers that will be used for tutoring, after school homework, adult continuing education, and job training.
To purchase the computer and monitor we need to raise $752.

Here are some of the things we’ve been working on:
-	Newsletter sign-up (be sure to check it out… you can find it on the right side bar)
-	Frequently Asked Questions (coming soon)
-	Project/Idea Submission Form (coming soon)
-	Photo Gallery (coming soon)
-	Project Stats (coming soon)
-	Project Update Section (coming soon)
We also just met with the good folks over at Dorchester House / U.I.C.M to shoot some video and hammer out the details for our first project. These two organizations (along with a few others) are building a new community center that will support the Black Hills neighborhood (a low-income and under-resourced neighborhood here in Grand Rapids, MI). This community center is going to be a great resource for a hurting community, and I think we can help them out with a few things.
We are targeting the week of June 18 to launch the project. To stay up to date be sure to subscribe to our newsletter or RSS feed.

The idea for this experiment is pretty simple… use this website to raise money (one dollar at a time) for a new cause each month. This could be any cause worth raising money for:
• Single mother who needs a new refrigerator
• Books for a school in Africa
• New computer for an after school tutoring program
• You get the idea…
Nothing huge… just a group of people giving an extra dollar to a cause they believe in.

So, I think we’re going to try it out. I’ll be posting information about the first “one dollar drive” in the next couple of weeks. But, between now and then I’ll need some honest feedback and input. Please think about and comment on the following:
• What do you think about the idea?
• Is it worth moving forward with a test-run?
• What needs to be in place to make it all work?
• What questions would you need answered before donating your dollar to a worthy cause?

Please post your comments / thoughts / ideas below (if you’re still on the home page, click here). And, if you have a friend who might have some great ideas/feedback, please forward them this link. Thanks.

A while back a friend of mine and I were talking about a web site we had read about, the Million Dollar Home Page (www.milliondollarhomepage.com). This site was created by a college student named Alex Tew, who hoped to use it to help pay for his college expenses. He set up a 1,000 x 1,000 pixel grid, and put each pixel up for sale… the price was $1 each.
Alex sold all 1 million pixels in just over 5 months.
As my friend and I discussed the Million Dollar Home Page, we began to wonder if the strategy of raising money one buck at a time could be used in different ways… What if that idea, that strategy, was used to support a good cause? Could it work?
So, the idea was wondered aloud… and then we moved on to discussing other things… probably the Spartans or the Pistons.
But, the idea got stuck in the back of my head. It kept cropping up at weird times. I’ve discussed it with friends and family, I’ve even bounced it off my dog… and I’ve mostly received good feedback.
So, here I am… 1 year later… launching an experimental web site to see if this crazy idea might work. I don’t plan to raise a million dollars for charity… or even thousands… but, I figure that we should be able to raise a couple hundred, and that kind of money, put towards a good cause, could make a big impact on someone’s life.

So, the question is, can a dollar change the world? I think the answer might be yes.

Thanks for visiting, and thanks for reading. There is more to come very soon.
